So many genres!
Let’s say you’ve just come home from the public library with a bag of books. You’re excited to settle into your favorite chair with a cup of tea beside you and a library book in your hands. First you have to choose which book it will be… The history of Cuba? Perhaps Emily Dickinson’s poems? What about “How to Keep the Faith in the 21st Century”? Or possibly the story of Mother Teresa’s early years?
You can find so many genres in the library. It’s the same with the Bible. You’ll find history, poetry, instructions, life stories, and much more.
Knowing the genre of the Scripture we’re reading helps us know how to read it
When we sit down to read or study the Bible, we need to know what kind of literature we’re exploring. That knowledge will determine how we approach the text. And that’s a good place to begin.
In part 3 of this “Reading the Bible with Fresh Eyes” series, I talked about the BibleProject. Today I’m thinking specifically of their video series called “How to Read the Bible.” As I mentioned in my last post, this engaging website is designed for a younger audience than typical Salt & Pepper readers (think people under 50) but everything I’ve seen on the site is solid, as well as being winsome.

This video is an overview. You will see that there are another 19 videos to give viewers greater insight into the Scriptures. And that’s just a portion of the BibleProject’s library. Enjoy exploring!
I trust this video refreshes your eyes for the Bible.
See you Thursday,
Ginger
