There is a Scripture passage that we love, beautiful and deep, and we delight to drink it in. We are amazed by its truth each time we read it, and it brings healing to our souls. This passage reassures us that God totally knows us and the he has since long before our birth.
Do you know what the passage is? Are you reciting it even now?
It’s Psalm 139, written by David. It’s a wonderful Scripture to open when we feel alone or insignificant. We wrap ourselves in it and find that we can breathe again, remembering that we are never out of God’s sight. We exult in God’s creation of us and remember that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (v 14).
What Does it Mean to be an Image Bearer?
This month we will explore what it means to be an image bearer and look at some groups of people who are less valued than others. I’m thinking of people who are defenseless, people who are used or abused, and those who might be considered of little use to society. We’ll meet some folks who minister to these overlooked individuals and learn some simple things we can do to treat them with the dignity that all people deserve.
Before we go, here is a song by Shane and Shane called Far Too Wonderful. It’s based on Psalm 139. As you listen, think of someone you know whose life is deemed of little importance in this world, and let the two voices you hear be a prayer of that person and yourself.
