It’s time to talk about new things—things that await us in 2021 and things that are as old as time yet new every morning!  Our theme for January, 2021 is “New.”

Let’s start the new year with a beloved Scripture, Lamentations 3:22-23. But let’s look at it in context by reading verses 19-26. (You might want to read the entire chapter for yourself, which gives even more context.)

I remember my affliction and my wandering,
the bitterness and the gall.
I well remember them,
and my soul is downcast within me.
Yet this I call to mind
and therefore I have hope:

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion;
therefore I will wait for him.”

The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him,
to the one who seeks him;
it is good to wait quietly
for the salvation of the Lord.
~ Lamentations 3:19-26 (NIV)

No matter what our lives have held, the bitterness and gall of 2020 and the many years preceding, how downcast our souls may be today, we have profound reason to hope: God’s never failing compassions are new every morning! Great is his faithfulness!
